Former NFR qualifier and champion barrel racer Jane Melby and her daughter’s 9-year-old gelding LTF Jets Last Dance were
crowned the 1D Shootout Champions at this years’ Patriot.

This was the second year of  The Patriot, which preceeds the coveted RFD-TV’s The American Rodeo held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Top Guns Patriot 4D Shootout Barrel Race had $10,000 added and was overflowing with talented horse and rider teams.

“Silver” as they affectionately call the grey gelding is owned by Jane’s daughter Cayla, who herself  is a decorated barrel racer at the young age of  18.
“I had only ridden “Silver” once before The Patriot which was at last year’s semi-finals for The American and I almost fell off he turned so hard,” laughed Melby.
Melby and “Silver” ran in the Invitational prior to the Shootout, which she noted that she didn’t ask him to go fast enough.“I watched my video from the Invitational in slow motion to see what I could change to be faster in the Shootout and it definitely paid off. “Silver” is a very unique horse. He seems to favor Cayla more than myself  because she has spent a lot of  time with him but now I am thinking I need to start spending more time with him as well!”

Melby was last years’ 3D Shootout winner so winning the 1D inthe Shootout at The Patriot this year was very exciting for Melby and her team.
